The Sams turn 3!

My sister's youngest set of twins, Samuel & Samantha, turned 3 last month!  We had a wonderful time celebrating with their family.  Unfortunately, I only took a couple pictures with my phone as that weekend I completely forgot my real camera.  Tara borrowed some of the circus decor from the shower that Lacey & I hosted for our friend Jen, and her food choices, and games went with the circus theme perfectly.
Such a cute cookie cake that her friend made for the party!
Emery had the best time with everyone.  She seriously loves parties where we eat all her favorite foods -- most importantly CAKE (and in this picture, POPCORN!).
Em acts so big when she's with the Dew cousins.  Love these littles :)
After we got the kids down for the night, we all stayed for a hilarious game of Apples to Apples.  Love our game nights, a total family tradition.
Happy Birthday Samuel and Samantha, we love you!

Emery 2 Year Video!

Considering the last video I compiled for a monthly update on Emery was when she was 8 months old, I am very excited that I have her 2 year one done some-what on time!  (Now I just have to go back and do all the ones in between-- it's on my list!)

Here are some clips of our sweet girl being 2 years old:
- Loves to sing
- Having a conversation with her stuffed animals in crib before napping
- Counting (cracks us up how she loves the number 17)
- Loves Playgrounds
- More singing-- she does this constantly on walks
- 2 Year Official Interview.  Well as official as it can be with a squirmy 2 year old.  (Hilarious what she thinks Kyle & I do for work! I didn't get it on camera but she also thinks Kyle and I are both 3 years old.)

Weekend Fails

1) Friday morning I walked downstairs to find a couple ants on our kitchen counter.  I followed the trail of ants to the outlet, pulled it off and found THIS...

Invasion of ants!  FAIL.  After shocking myself twice (that's a first) I think we have killed them all now!  Kyle also sprayed all around the house and in the crawl space so we hopefully won't have any more invasions for a while.

2) Rented SkyFall from RedBox and we both fell asleep during it.  FAIL. We had to finish it up the night after BUT since you have to return it by 9, it was stressful to accomplish that!  I think we got Em in bed by 7:20, the movie finished up around 8:49 and Kyle sped to the nearest box to drop it off by 8:57... phew.

3) Got my hair highlighted Saturday morning.  The lady did a HUGE spot down the front center so now I officially look like a skunk.  FAIL.  Will be going back this week to get that fixed hopefully.

4) We drained our pond in the backyard to clean out all the leaves in the bottom and try to get the water feature working.  During the process we realized we have 2 goldfish in there as well as 3 HUGE frogs (don't worry they are all still alive).  It took all day Saturday to drain, so we were planning to work on it Sunday.  Well it rained ALL DAY Sunday, so now our pond is all filled up again, with the pump still not working.  FAIL.

5) We bought pine straw on Saturday to spread on Sunday.  Again, woke up Sunday to find it all soaking wet in our driveway-- we should really check the weather more often. FAIL.

BUT...
We did get our guest bedroom upstairs painted this weekend, a gray blue color called Misty by Sherwin Williams.   I trimmed it out for Kyle last week during Em's nap time and then he rolled this weekend.  I'm excited about the color scheme and bed decor we have planned for this room-- now just have to find the time & money to do it!
Here's the before and after of the paint:
Hope you all had wonderful weekends!

Add lumberjack to Kyle's resume!

After having a couple landscaping professionals confirm that we needed to take out the River Birch tree (was too close to the front corner of our house), Kyle tackled that project last weekend.  Emery and I decided to cheer Daddy on from a safe spot (with a necklace and purse of course!):
My dad lent him his chainsaw and Kyle's plan of how to make sure it fell correctly (in our yard & between bushes) worked perfectly.
During the watching process I finally braided a little bit of Em's hair!  It's so long now but she's normally too busy to sit still for me to do it!
Sweet girl:
Kyle also mowed the front & back lawn for the first time since we moved in-- thank you so much Kerry & Brad for giving us yours!  Also a huge thank you to both of our parents and grandparents for lending us their extra lawn tools as well.  Coming from a townhouse where landscaping was included, we had nothing!

Now that the lawn is mowed we can see the numerous dead spots so Kyle also fertilized this past weekend.  Hopefully by next year we'll have a green lawn with no dead spots but for now we are totally loving having a yard!!
We have a lot of items on the list for outside but as it gets warmer we'll be able to spend more time out there and do them slowly.  Here are a few pictures from last week enjoying the yard-- picnic time!

(we were pet sitting Kyle's parents dog- Raven- for the past week)

Quick trip to Boone

We headed to Boone last weekend for less than 24 hours (needed to be at home for part of the weekend to complete a couple yard projects), but we still had a great time. We got there right in time to eat dinner at Black Cat, then head to the cabin for all of us to crash.  We headed back home after breakfast the next morning but managed to take a couple photos during our time there.
Swinging with my sweetie-- Kyle was gone the whole week before so it was nice to get some quality time together even though neither one of us could keep our eyes open past 8:30 that night!

Scrunchie nose smile:
 Loving the curls:
Yes, if Em isn't sporting ASU gear, next on the list is FSU or UNC!  Hope we'll be able to stay up there longer next time!

Minnie in the houseeee

The Dew crew gave Emery her own Minnie dress for her Birthday.  Emery is just getting into playing dress up, and this dress couldn't be more perfect for her!  As soon as she puts it on she says repeatedly "so pretty".  These pictures are just too cute not to share.  Thanks again TD!

Emery 2 year update!

Emery Katherine is TWO! We haven't done an official update on our blog since Emery was 16 months old-- wow so much has changed, where do I even begin?  Here's some fun photos I took of her a couple days before her 2nd Birthday!

We went to the Pediatrician last week for Emery's checkup (no shots, yeah!),  so here are her 24 month stats-- she didn't give us percentages this time:
Weight: 27 lb 2 oz. (55%)
Height: 35.25 inches (83%)
Head around 90%
BMI: 15.35 kg/m2 (average is 15-25 I think)
PERSONALITY!
If I had to choose one word to explain Emery in a nutshell it would 100% be the word SWEET.  She loves to snuggle/"rocky rocky" (rock in her glider), and absolutely hates it when you are upset with her and responds quickly with an "I'm sorry, Mommy/Daddy" just to make things right.  She listens so unbelievably well, and truly doesn't defy us (If terrible two's do come, we'll be in for a big shock around here).  She is still super shy around strangers or large crowds, but when she's in an environment where she's comfortable there will not be a silent moment.  She talks/sings constantly and amazes Kyle and I with how many words she learns and says per day.  If there is a word that she's trying to say that we can't understand she makes direct eye contact and says it very slow over and over (it's hilarious).  Then if we STILL don't know what she's saying she'll walk over and point to whatever it is like "get it now guys?".  She definitely always wants us to know what she's saying all the time, it's so cute.

We've still never had a real temper tantrum, as we can always talk with her about whatever fit she's even considering having. I really think because she's always been able to communicate so well with us what she wants or is upset about, we've been able to completely avoid the screaming/throwing fits. Now, that doesn't mean we give her everything she wants, it just means she understands and immediately stops crying when we say "We do not cry about .... because ...".  She always says "good girl" afterwards-- LOVES PRAISE for being a good girl!  The only time we've had trouble with her continuing to whine is if we're unavailable to talk to her about it (for example if we are in a conversation with someone else).  We are working on patience with her as we speak.

She is still a complete girly-girl, loving any kind of jewelry but most especially necklaces.  She wears them everywhere we go.
Minnie Mouse is her FAVORITE and we seriously can't have enough Minnie stuff in our house.  She seriously wears Minnie socks every.single.day.

She also loves carrying around her "babies", bringing them in the car with us, and pushing them in her little stroller!

She LOVES acting "big" and doing things that Mommy/Daddy does.  Whether it's pretending to put on make-up, putting on our shoes, wanting curlers in her hair, or randomly adding the word "babe" after she says something just to make us laugh... she thinks it's awesome!

She even runs to get her measuring tape as soon as Kyle starts measuring something.  So adorable!

She loves reading books and running around naked too.  This night she wanted to do both together, so hilarious:

PLAYTIME!
All we do these days is play!  We are so thankful to now have a bonus room in this house where we can have a whole room devoted to play.  (Yes, that's our refrigerator box in the background that lays on it's side with holes cut out for windows)

Beyond playing inside or in the yard of our house, she loves Discovery Place Kids...

AND playgrounds.  Slides and swinging are still her favorite things, as you can tell from these pictures below! (Yes, she actually went down headfirst one day... so unlike her but she LOVED it!).  Unless it's raining we drive/walk to a playground every day.

She still loves to be thrown up in the air or roughhoused by Kyle, too!

She sits like this a ton-- and by the way this is a rarity of her smiling huge in the tub.  She does NOT like it when water runs in her eyes.

SLEEPING!
We are loving the full nights of sleep that Emery consistently does these days.  She still is going to bed anywhere between 7 and 7:30 pm, and then waking up between 7 and 8 am.  Right at 18 months, Emery dropped her second nap so we are completely on a 1 nap per day schedule normally lasting an hour and a half or a little longer if she's really worn out (1 to 2:30 or 3).

The only time her sleep suffers is when she has a fever and can't get comfortable on her own.  We are in the process of diving a little deeper into her fevers, but most times we can associate them with teething.

EATING!
She's officially in a big girl booster seat at the table and loves eating on her plates.  For the most part she is a great eater, but a couple times she's thrown us for a loop and absolutely hated something she had devoured a couple days prior.

Here are the foods that she'll always eat:
Breakfast - Toast with grape jelly, scrambled eggs w/ slices of turkey mixed in, bacon/sausage, blueberry pancakes/waffles, cereal, any kind of fruit, yogurt, muffins or bagels.
Snack - Yogurt covered raisins, fruits, pretzels, goldfish, crackers, fruit snacks, yogurt dots (just tried these for the first time this week... amazing)

Lunch - Grilled cheese, peanut butter & jelly, turkey sandwich w/ a pickle slice on it :), mac n cheese, hot dogs, home made pizzas

Dinner - Pizza, Tacos, Chicken & Noodles, Spaghetti, Green beans, corn, peas, black beans

She's totally into using her own utensils now and dipping her foods into sauces:
We let her try Chicken McNuggets for the first time the other day.  She didn't really like them but loved the ketchup :)

She always helps me cook every meal from her stand, and loves telling me the steps of what has to happen for it to be ready for us to eat.

Helping me get all the muffin liners ready-- check out that hair!

RANDOMS!
- We still head to the local libraries twice a week.  Her favorite part by far is getting a stamp on her hand at the end of class, and then she always begs to go play with their puzzles outside.  This picture was taken during "Dr. Seuss" week:
- She LOVES animals, especially cats-- haha.  We've taken her to Petsmart a couple times and she always wants to go right over to the cats.
-  She has Keratosis Pilaris (very tiny bumps on arms, legs and cheeks) and we do a topical cream twice a day to help them not get too inflamed.  You can really see them on her face when it's windy-- they get red.  They don't seem to bother her at all though, so that's whats most important!
- She is currently wearing: size 5 diapers, size 6 shoes (but about to go to 7), and 2T clothing is a little snug!
- She is not very interested in arts & crafts, she'll color for a little bit but it doesn't last longHowever, she LOVES carrying around things that are little and all the same size (whether it be crayons, markers, wooden disks, etc).
I'm sure I'll think of a ton once this is posted, so I'll add more later as I remember :)
