"I want some candy!"

Happy Halloween! Kyle and I stayed in tonight to see if we would have any trick-or-treaters, and we DID! Our first one was a little girl (around 4 yrs old) who lives across the street and immediately after we opened our door she yelled in an excited voice, "I want some candy, I'm a little witch!" with her hands reaching up to us ... it was hilarious. We had about 10 other kids come, so that was fun and Kyle and I enjoyed seeing all the costumes!

Happy Halloween Party in Charlotte!

This weekend Kyle and I drove to Charlotte for our FIRST Halloween Party together! Molly and Marshal were hosting one with all of their close friends, so we accepted the invite! We ended up leaving on Saturday morning, which gave us Friday night to relax here in Marietta, and not have to fight all the traffic for heading out of town! Not only did we have the Halloween party to get ready for, but Marshal and Kyle had been planning to make their own skateboards this weekend as well. Kyle had already ordered the wood from Chris, and glued two pieces together and curved them for the right flex. As soon as we arrived in Charlotte, the boys started cutting and sanding! They then stained and placed the grip tape on, of course leaving a spot for their "BB" (Big Black... you know from Rob & Big!) logos. Kyle and I had made stickers for the bottoms of their boards with their last names, in a graffiti look. Marshal had ordered the trucks & wheels, and this was their final product!
While the guys were busy making skateboards, Molly & I headed over to her friend Adam's house and started decorating for the party with streamers, fake spider webs and balloons. NEXT was getting ready for the party! Kyle and I hadn't told them what we were going to be so it was fun walking out and seeing M&M's reaction! We decided to be Popeye and Olive Oyl, and had a lot of fun making our own costumes.

Every one at the party was SO nice and friendly. Kyle and I came to the party only knowing 2 people, and left feeling like this wasn't the first time we had hung out with all of them. It was a great change from a lot of the people we have met down here in GA, that seem to have a different attitude in making new friends. Everyone was dressed up in costumes! There was Ron Burgendy and Veronica Cornerstone from Anchorman, Dorothy, Cowboys, LOTS of people in "shirts", Double Dare players, Cops, and more. We THOROUGHLY enjoyed ourselves!

We came back after the party and played Guitar Hero, then went to bed because we all were exhausted. Today we woke up, had breakfast, then headed out to play some Frisbee Golf at a course close to their house. We brought the dogs, and enjoyed the beautiful day outside. OH I forgot to say that Saturday night after the Halloween Party, Kyle was taking out Tyson and wanted to ride his board. He was the only one out there and he came back in about 5 minutes later... his brand new board that he had worked so hard in making... BROKEN in half! He had actually ordered the wrong type of wood from Chris, and the wood is not strong enough to be flexed that way. SO today we had to go and buy Kyle a new deck to put his trucks and wheels on, and it rides just like a snowboard. Kyle loves it, and Marshal and him had a great time riding together. What a great weekend, thanks guys for all the fun!

The Big Thank-You!

Kyle and I both listen to this radio station in Atlanta on our way to and from work, called "All the hits, Q100.5". Over the past month they have been announcing to everyone about the "Big Thank-You". Since Thanksgiving is coming up, they wanted to take on the challenge of getting a letter out to each solider over seas, not only in Iraq, but EVERYWHERE, who won't be home over the holidays. That total is close to 375,000 soldiers. Kyle and I definitely wanted to participate, so we both wrote letters. 3 letters is no where close to what all the schools in Georgia are turning in (hundreds), but it's still great knowing that our letters will reach SOMEONE out there, and hopefully brighten their day. We wrote our return address on there, so if we hear back, we'll let you know! We are so thankful for our troops and what they do everyday for our freedom. On the radio they played the song "Thank You" by the popular Christian band, Third Day. It's a beautiful song if you haven't heard it yet, and explains exactly what "The Big Thank You" is all about.

Engagement Party in Raleigh!

Last weekend we made the haul to Raleigh for Lauren & Matt's engagement party! I took a sick day on Friday, since I wasn't feeling well all last week with migraines. (this week is Bridal Fashion week in NYC, so we were running around crazy trying to get everything ready and out in time). So needless to say we got out of ATL sooner than we had imagined, and even had time to stop in Charlotte to get our rings polished and cleaned!
Saturday we woke up and went for a LONG run, over 3 miles! I couldn't believe I actually ran that far (unfortunately it's nothing for Kyle!). It was a beautiful day, and we ended up getting to enjoy it! We went to Walmart and bought everything we needed to for out Halloween costumes (they are a suprise, you'll see what they are on our next post!). We then went over to G-ma and G-pa's to hang out with them. Grandpa is doing good, his hair has started to fall out from the chemo so he definitely has a new look! The treatments totally knock him out and make him nauseas, but he actually made it to church on Sunday so that was a definite improvement!

Saturday night was Lauren's engagement party, "hosted" by all the bridesmaids. I honestly didn't know what to expect, since there had been some behind the scenes drama with costs for the party. All in all though we had a great time, and it was neat to put some faces to all the names I've heard from Lauren. I even got the chance to visit with Mr. DeLoach, which I really hadn't done in about 6 years... he barely recognized me, ha! I also got to introduce Kyle to some the old Bayleaf crew and catch up, so that was really fun too. We had hotdogs, hamburgers, potato salad, hummus and pitas, crackers and pimento cheese, cupcakes, and drinks. Lauren said it was exactly what she wanted, so that's all that matters!

Can't believe we both have rings on our fingers now!Here are half of the bridesmaids:On Sunday we went to church with the family, then came back and had a delicious lunch. Grandma bought steaks for each one of us (9 people), and we thoroughly enjoyed them! It's always so great to visit with family! The twins now reach for your face and pinch it!It's so neat to see how they actually know where you are in relation to themselves, recognize voices and make facial expressions when certain things are said... they are growing up so fast and couldn't be any cuter!

A Start to the Garage Makeover!

This weekend was a really relaxing weekend in Atlanta. We are grateful for these, because they don't happen that much for us! Lauren DeLoach, one of my best friends growing up, drove with her mom down to Georgia this weekend, so I was able to hang out with them Friday and Saturday. I learned a lot about the way "real southerners" do weddings, and we'll leave it at that :)
While I was off trying on bridesmaid dresses, Kyle started on our garage. We needed to get our garage organized and clean since in a month we'll be cutting it in half! Our garage is a stacked 2 car garage. The back half, we have decided will become an office. We never use the garage for both of our cars, and Kyle will be needing an office since he's decided to go back to school to get his MBA! We are hoping we can knock that out in the Thanksgiving week, with my dads help! Kyle put up garage fast track along one of the walls to hang his bikes and some outside tools.

Also, I never posted pictures of what the other side of our garage looks like. When my parents came down to first visit back in May, Kyle and my dad built him a workshop area in this little nook that was there. It was an all day project, hanging the peg board and cabinets, but most importantly running electricity from our power box so Kyle could have a light above it all!

So right now I'm very happy b/c our garage is VERY organized and clean (we even have framed posters up!). I'm sure it won't stay this way for very long, so that's why I took pictures now! We'll post pictures as soon as our office is built!

Boone weekend with our "twins"!

What a wonderful weekend we had with Molly and Marshal! It was Homecoming weekend for Appstate, so we were able to get off work early and head to Boone! We stopped in Charlotte to pick up Molly & Marshal, who both went to UCONN, to bring them for a relaxing weekend at the cabin. We had the best time! After sitting in some traffic, we ordered Black Cat to-go, which is one of Kyle's and my favorite Mexican places in Boone. We went back to the cabin, gave them a tour, ate our food then started playing GUITAR HERO! We have Molly & Marshal hooked now (they've already bought their own), and were competing against each other all night.

Saturday morning Molly & I woke up to the smell of bacon and eggs. The men had woken up early, gone to the grocery store, come back and made us breakfast! How sweet! We then took the dogs (Tupelo is M&M's dog, a mix between border collie and springer spaniel) to the Valle Crucis Park, where they could go swim in the river. The dogs had a blast playing with the frisbee, well Tyson would go for the frisbee and Tupelo would "herd" him back to us.

Also while we were in the river, Marshal taught us how to make "war paint". It is supposedly what the Indians used, and you can get blues, reds, blacks, yellows-- heck ANY color when you rub the right rocks together. All we could get was browns (go figure haha!).

After that adventure, we went and met up with Rachel, Mike & friends to tailgate before the game. We had some great food, along with playing red neck horse shoes and corn hole! We stayed at the game until halftime. App State was playing Gardner Webb, and won by a landslide 45 to 7! Next was to the Mast General Store on King Street. We all loaded up on candy from all the barrels full, then walked around to the ASU bookstore, Foot Sloggers & other outdoor shops. For dinner we picked up HOKKAIDO (our favorite Japanese place), went home and then decided to have a campfire outside! We sat by the fire, ate smores and talked for hours. One of the best nights we have had in a while for sure!

Sunday morning Molly & Marshal cooked us pancakes & bacon for breakfast! We then drove with the dogs to Rough Ridge Overlook off the parkway. It's about a mile & a half hike, to a beautiful overlook. There were no clouds in the sky, and could see all the gorgeous trees changing colors.

To top it all off we picked up sandwiches from the Ham Shop, and took a picnic to the Watauga River off of Shulls Mill, and sat on rocks while the dogs swam. The weather couldn't have been any more perfect, and the company of great friends topped it all off. We call ourselves "the twins" now, since Kyle & Marshal are brothers separated at birth, and we are finding out that Molly & I are the same as well! We are definitely looking forward to the next trip we take, hopefully it will be snowboarding!! Thanks guys again for coming!

A Big Day for Get Married!

Today is October 1st, the day I have heard about ever since I accepted the graphic design position at Get Married. Our TV show and website both launched today. Our TV show airs on Lifetime every weekday morning at 7:30 am - 8:00. Most of us can watch it while we are all getting ready for work, but if not you should DVR it (create series recording!). Anyways it's a show and website to help give ideas, tips, advice, and shopping sites to brides from the day they get engaged to their wedding day. So girls watch it!
I am the only designer for Get Married, which has been real hard at times to get used to the pressure and deadlines. On the other hand it has given me experience in working for a start up company. They just launched the company April 1st, and we are already National on Lifetime. That's pretty crazy. Most everyone who works here is in their 20's and very talented, so it's neat that I get to be around people like that! Our most recent news is that David Tutera, one of the biggest celebrity event designers out there right now, is our new host for our tv show! His work is incredible, and he's a really nice guy (yes I got to meet a celebrity!!). I get to design graphics for the tv show as well, so my name is on the credits!

Here's a couple that I've done:

The website is basically all my designs, except for a couple things that we couldn't change (video player, certain vendor things, and fashion tabs). I had the challenge of taking all the information and trying to make it look organized. I came up with the different colored headers with the dots fading... hopefully it worked! I handed all my designs over to our web designers, John & Jennifer, and then they cut everything up and coded it all to work and be active links! Prettty cool. I think the things I enjoyed designing the most were our page headers and our promos. I really enjoy working with typography and arranging letters to fit in different shapes. We are using century gothic as our font, geneva for the html text, and some fun cursive fonts (marnie, champignon, blackjack, kayleigh) randomly throughout the site (that comment was for my graphic design girls!).

Anyways if you go on the site, you'll be able to recognize all my stuff I'm sure. The site really just went up today, so I'm sure some stuff is not finished by the web design people, but take a look around and I hope you enjoy!
I've also redesigned the whole e-blast template, which has been fun. We send tons of eblasts out to our registered brides, linking them to articles and other information.
