Monday - Day 3 - Biking, River and Hootenanny!

Monday morning, we slept in then headed downstairs for our continental breakfast. We brought our OJ's back up to the room and read out on our patio since it was a beautiful day :) It was so nice to have a relaxed morning with no place to rush off to. After getting ready and packing our stuff we headed over to a laundromat to wash some of our clothes. Since it had rained the day before, all of our clothes were muddy and gross, so it was nice to take less than an hour out of our day to have more clothes for the week! We then walked around downtown Jackson and the square. They have antler arches on all four corners, which is just so cool in my opinion. We were both craving NACHOS so we went to the Merry Piglets... yum yum yum (MUCH better than granola bars)!

The one thing we did want to do that day was return our bear canisters and let the rangers know we were off the trail. On the way to the ranger station we saw a backpacker walking, so we picked him up and brought him with us to the permit office. He was traveling in from Germany, and was just going to hike the trail for a week. He was walking from the airport to the ranger station and was very appreciative that we picked him up. We ended up selling him our bear spray so that worked out well!

While at the permit office we booked a free back country camp site for Tuesday... man can't wait to tell you about this day!! After dropping off our bear canisters we headed back to the climbers ranch. This is where we stayed our first night and when we were getting our tour they had all these bikes that they let their visitors use. So we went and borrowed 2 of their bikes and went for a ride! It was A.W.E.S.O.M.E! All along the main drive is a wide, flat bike path and we had a great time riding on it. Kyle had his map with him at all times and LOVED pointing out which mountain was which ;)

While riding our bikes we had passed a creek, so on our way back we stopped and hung out there for a couple hours.... talk about relaxing! Kyle hung his hammock between trees, explored the river and played his harmonica (I have yet to do a post on this, but believe me it's coming!). I read my book on a log close to the river, then joined Kyle in his hammock to rest for a little. It was so nice to talk and relax together like this. I felt like we were in a movie, who has time to do this in their normal lives?

Around 6:00 we were heading back to Dornan's for the Hootenanny but stopped at this chapel (The Chapel of Transfiguration) on the way. A lot of people get married here in town, and man what a view! Maybe this can be our 5th redo-wedding place (we have about 4 other weddings we want to have before this one!).

After leaving the church we headed to Dornan's for a HOOTENANNY that a ranger had told us about. We love any kind of live music, and had heard this is where all the locals go on Monday nights. We had beef stew, ribs, mashed potatoes, rolls, berry cobbler, and more! We picked a table pretty close and had so much fun listening to all the locals take their turn at the open mic. They each were able to sing 2 songs, and one of the 'regulars' was the first guy to officially ski the Grand Teton in the 60's! CRAZY!

OH and look at what we saw come out of the woods RIGHT IN FRONT of our car!! It was crazy, and of course I snapped pictures without even looking at the setting it was on... duoh!

After the Hootenanny we headed back into Teton Village to stay at "The Hostel". It was actually PERFECT for us and only $70! They had a huge game room downstairs (I kicked Kyle's tail in some Checkers), a separate area to wax your ski's/snowboard, movie room, kitchen and more! It's a perfect place to stay while skiing with a group of friends that's for sure!

Of course though comparing it to our first hotel... well you just can't even compare them. We had fun making this video showing you all the room! I think we were just tired?! (Nick and Win you like the way we did the video?)



That was a long day to post. As you all can tell I'm a HUGE detail person and we didn't want to forget anything, so hopefully you made it all the way to the end!! We had such a great day, "Plan B" was turning out to be pretty good ;) And that was Day #3!
