Tuesday - Day 4 - Private Island

Tuesday we woke up to another beautiful day with blue skies, left Teton Village and drove North to Jackson Lake. We had booked a back country campsite, so we went to go explore around it and see how we could actually get there. Our original plan was to rent a canoe from the marina overnight, paddle there Tuesday spend the night then paddle back Wednesday. But when we arrived at the marina they said they don't rent any boats over night. SO we went to plan B! We drove over to the closest parking lot to the campsite (about 2 miles away) and scoped out the coast to see if we could walk the whole way there. Unfortunately "Deadman's Point" has turned into "Deadman's Point ISLAND", and we were going to have to swim!! So we decided to rent a boat to drop off our stuff, then we would hike and swim into it!

We went to the marina and rented a little fishing boat for an hour, to drop off our stuff. We had all of our food and clothes packed in our backpacks so we loaded those on the boat and headed to our island! The water was like GLASS, it was so beautiful!

Kyle really enjoyed driving the boat out there, and even though it was a pretty large lake there was no one on it! Talk about admiring God's creation... look at this next picture! I love how you can see the mountains and clouds reflecting in the water!

We dropped our stuff off on the island (put all of our food in the bear boxes) and then headed back to return the boat. When we were dropping everything off in the marina, they were asking us how we were going to get out there and we told them our hiking/swimming plan. There was a man, Tom, who was the sailboat captain sitting in the room and he said "That sounds like a lot of work, why don't I just drive you". I was SO excited b/c the water is FREEZING! So he drove us all the way out there in his sailboat, and dropped us off! His keel on the bottom of the boat wouldn't let him pull all the way in, so Kyle and I jumped off about 10 feet from the island (still got soaking wet and changed immediately after getting on land!). We told Tom that picking us up Wednesday around 11 sounded great, and he said he'd be there. And then there were two...

What girl doesn't want to be trapped on a deserted island with just her husband and no technology/people as distractions? It was AWESOME. We set up our tent, and then ate some lunch. I am proud to say that we ate all of our food that we brought for the trail, all week long... it did not go to waste! We had our bagels with summer sausage and cheese for lunch, and it wasn't too bad! We could finally have a fire at this site, which Kyle and I both love so that was fun to sit around as well.

We set up the hammock and both got in it facing each other. We can't remember the last time we've just sat and talked to each other... with Kyle's school and both of our works being so crazy it's been a while! It was perfect.

For dinner we made our Mountain House Lasagna meal, man do we love that one! Kyle had a "cooler" made in the water out of rocks to keep our drinks cold. We also roasted smores for dessert!

We sat around the fire, then headed in our tent to watch the stars. We left our rain fly off for this part, and it was amazing since there are no other lights around. By far the most stars we've ever seen. Too bad neither one of us know anything about astrology and kept being like "is that orion's belt? hmm looks like a belt to me!" haha. I started to get a little nervous being on a deserted island with animals ALL around us, but Kyle assured me they wouldn't mess with us... and he was right they didn't! We put on the rain fly then went to bed! This was one of our favorite days... it was just perfect! And that was Day #4!
