Monday morning, we ate our complimentary breakfast at the hotel before driving into Yosemite Valley. We were so excited about getting to the park headquarters to pick out a hike for that day. Within a couple minutes Kyle knew he wanted us to do the Mist Trail, and I happily agreed! It goes right by 2 waterfalls (hence the title "mist"), is the beginning of the Half Dome hike, and is part of the John Muir Trail. We suited up with Emery in the back pack carrier and away we went!
Look at that blue sky. I loved being in the valley as the mountains surrounding you are incredible.
Emery immediately fell right asleep!
It was only a 1.6 mile hike to Vernal Falls, but lots of steps built into the side of a mountain to get there!
The view was absolutely worth it! Since it's not rainy season in California the waterfalls weren't nearly as full as they would be but they were still beautiful.

We then climbed to the top!
And took a lunch break with sandwiches we had packed. We even set up the hammock to relax in for a while!
We had a view of the next waterfall, Nevada Falls, while eating lunch and before long were charged and ready to hike up to it. Here it is behind Kyle.
The hike up was super steep and I couldn't believe Kyle did the entire thing while carrying Emery. We laughed as someone we passed whispered to his wife "there goes one of those Olympians". Kyle the Olympian :)
The rock faces are incredible as well. Beautiful views our entire hike!
Before we knew it we had hiked up a little over 2 more miles and made it to the top of Nevada Falls!

We decided to go back down to Yosemite Valley on the opposite side of the Falls then we had come up. This was part of the John Muir Trail, and we actually liked this trail better than the other side.
Crazy how the trails are built right into the side of the mountains:

Once back down in the Valley we immediately went to the creek to take off our shoes and soak our feet in the cold water. Emery had a blast being out of the backpack and the water felt so good!
Before leaving the park we had to get a picture next to the Yosemite Sign just like we did here on our visit to Yellowstone. Fun tradition to do!

This was our favorite day on our entire vacation. Hiking with just our family of 3 combined with these amazing views is a memory we'll always cherish. We headed out of the park and drove to the Bayly's lake house in Jamestown where we spent the next 2 days relaxing... that post coming tomorrow!

Oh my goodness those views are amazing! And speaking of amazing...you two are master hikers. I give Kyle a gold medal for carrying Emery up, up, up! She is a real champ at riding in the backpack too. So happy you three got to do this together.

PS - We came up John Muir and went down the mist... all those stairs on mist almost made my knees explode! Very impressed you guys champed it UP that way!
beautiful! i want to go. so fun that you guys still do all these great trips and adventures with EM. the last pictures crack me up. the one with em and then it looks like she took the jump shot one :) ha fun memories for sure.
